January’s theme: Black and White.
… I love the simplicity a black and white image gives and yet the deeper emotion that draws the eye and heart into the image and compels it to stay a while.. linger.
Honestly as soon as I saw this months theme I thought, ” Oh that will be pretty easy.. I’ll just grab a few images of Caleb, maybe some of Chris and Caleb. And just shoot in black and white or change them over in the editing process.” And I knew it would be fun!
But then I started to really think about it. What does black and white mean to our family. I don’t know if you knew this or not..but my family is kinda black and white.. well I guess more than kinda.
Its something Chris and I joke about often. I cant tell you how many times I have been asked, ” You know your husband is black, right?!?” I always react in shock with a snarky comment.. “oh really! I had no idea!”
Its been an adventure for this southern white girl and no doubt for my D.C. suburban boy of a husband. We’ve learned a lot. Somethings I am happy to know.. and others I would love to forget.
But you know what.. Caleb only knows love. He doesn’t even know that mom is white and daddy is black. Well, I mean he does. He’s seven he knows his colors. But he doesn’t care. Its actually pretty hilarious that he has to ask on occasion if Grandma is mom’s mom, or if Grams is. I LOVE it!
I had a blast taking these images.. got a work out too. Setting up the camera, running into place, then running over to check to see if anyone was making bunny ears, changing a few settings and then running back!
Anyway, here is my submission for Month 1 of Project 12.
